A Look Back at Tangy Toms
Tangy Toms were a favourite snack back in the eighties and nineties. You could buy them at the school tuck shop, or the corner shop on your way home from school.
What are Tangy Toms?
Tangy Toms are tomato flavour snacks made by Golden Wonder. Back when they first came out they cost just 5p per packet making them the perfect pocket money treat for kids around the UK.
The Tangy Tom was a spherical-shaped crispy snack sold in small packets like crisps. The little balls were a moreish snack that melted in the mouth. I used to love finding the Toms with the most tomato powder on, they tasted so delicious!
Can you still buy Tangy Toms today?
Many of our favourite childhood snacks from the eighties and nineties were discontinued long ago. But thankfully, you can still buy Tangy Toms today.
These tomato-based starch snacks have held their popularity for decades and there’s no sign of them being taken off shop shelves any time soon – thank goodness for that!

Tangy Toms crisps were pretty unique back when they were first released. Not only were they tomato-flavoured, but they were also shaped uniquely too. They stood out amongst the rest of the crisps on the shelves and they were perfect for kids to chuck at each other across the dinner hall too! Not that we’d condone that sort of behaviour!
