Fruit Salad Sweets – A UK Retro Classic!
What are fruit salad sweets?
Fruit salad sweets are classic retro sweets from the 70s and 80s. The classic pink and yellow sweet in it’s matching wrapper was a real treat back when I was growing up in the eighties and nineties. Since then they’ve never really gone out of fashion and have been a popular choice for those with a sweet tooth ever since they first appeared on shop shelves. Fruit salad chews are often sold in UK tuck shops alongside their perfect partner, the good old Black Jack. Both these chewy sweets are made by Barratt Sweets.
What do fruit salad sweets taste like?
Fruit salad chews have a really unique flavour. If you were to do a blind taste test, you would only have to taste one for a second before you know exactly what it is.
Despite being called fruit “salad”, which suggests a whole range of fruity flavours, these sweets are actually raspberry and pineapple flavoured. Initially, I was quite surprised when I read that, but when I think about it, they do have those two flavours in abundance.
