Classic Caprese Skewers

Caprese skewers are such a simple yet delicious treat that I love to make when I’m looking for something fresh and quick. These little bites are perfect for parties, picnics, or even just as a light snack during the week. The combination of sweet cherry tomatoes, creamy mozzarella pearls, and fragrant fresh basil always hits the spot, and the balsamic glaze adds that perfect finishing touch that ties it all together.

What I really love about these Caprese skewers is how easy they are to assemble. With just a handful of ingredients, you can put them together in under 10 minutes. Whether you’re prepping for a big event or just serving something light alongside dinner, these skewers are always a hit. I usually double the recipe because they tend to disappear fast!

The beauty of these skewers is that you can customize them to your liking, too. If you prefer extra mozzarella or want a little more basil, it’s easy to adjust. Plus, the balsamic glaze adds a tangy sweetness that elevates the whole thing. It’s a dish that’s both simple and sophisticated, and I love how it never fails to impress my family or guests.

Ingredients

  • 12 cherry tomatoes: These sweet, juicy cherry tomatoes are the perfect base for each skewer, adding a burst of freshness and color.
  • ½ cup mozzarella pearls: The creamy, bite-sized mozzarella pearls provide a rich, smooth texture that complements the other ingredients.
  • 24 fresh basil leaves: Fresh basil leaves offer a fragrant, herbal note that balances the richness of the mozzarella and the sweetness of the tomatoes.
  • 1 tbsp balsamic glaze: A drizzle of balsamic glaze adds a tangy, sweet depth that ties all the flavors together in the most delicious way.
  • ½ tsp black pepper, or to taste: A dash of black pepper enhances the flavors and gives just the right amount of seasoning to the skewers.

Caprese Skewers Tips & Tricks

  • Use Fresh Ingredients: The quality of the tomatoes, mozzarella, and basil really makes a difference. Opt for ripe, sweet cherry tomatoes, fresh mozzarella pearls, and vibrant basil leaves for the best flavor.

  • Make Ahead: You can prepare the skewers in advance and store them in the fridge for a few hours before serving. Just wait to drizzle the balsamic glaze and sprinkle the black pepper until right before serving to keep the skewers fresh.

  • Customize the Skewers: If you want to add variety, try using different types of tomatoes, such as heirloom or yellow tomatoes, for a pop of color. You can also swap mozzarella pearls for larger pieces of mozzarella, cutting them into smaller chunks.

  • Add Extra Flavors: For an extra layer of flavor, you can sprinkle some dried oregano, crushed red pepper flakes, or even garlic powder on the skewers before drizzling with balsamic glaze.

  • Perfect Your Skewer Arrangement: When assembling, feel free to gently fold the basil leaves if they’re too large for the skewers to make everything fit nicely. This will also help distribute the basil more evenly with the tomatoes and mozzarella.

  • Serving Suggestion: Serve the skewers on a platter with a small bowl of extra balsamic glaze on the side for dipping. It adds a fun touch and allows guests to add more glaze as they like.

  • Skewer Options: If you don’t have traditional wooden skewers, you can use toothpicks or small cocktail skewers to make bite-sized versions. Just be careful when serving to avoid sharp ends!
