Toasty Sweet Potato Bites with Marshmallows & Pecans
Sweet potatoes always feel like the ultimate comfort food to me, and these little bites are one of my favorite ways to enjoy them. They bring together everything I love in a holiday side – warm roasted sweet potatoes, a drizzle of maple syrup, gooey toasted marshmallows, and a crunchy pecan on top. It’s all the best parts of a sweet potato casserole, but in a perfectly portioned bite-sized version.
I make these often for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving because they’re such a fun twist on a classic dish. Instead of scooping from a casserole dish, everyone can grab a little bite that’s just the right size. They look adorable on the table, and they taste even better than the original. They’re simple to prepare, so I can have them roasting in the oven while I’m working on everything else for the meal.
These sweet potato bites never last long. The marshmallows turn golden and melty, the maple syrup adds a rich sweetness, and the pecan gives just the right crunch. Every bite feels cozy, festive, and a little indulgent. They’ve quickly become a family favorite in my kitchen, and I know I’ll be making them year after year.

Ingredients
-
2 sweet potatoes (about 1 lbs): Sweet potatoes make the perfect base for these bites with their natural sweetness and hearty texture.
-
8 pecan halves: A crunchy pecan on top adds just the right nutty finish.
-
4 medium-sized marshmallows: Marshmallows toast up beautifully for that gooey, golden layer everyone loves.
-
2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted: Melted butter helps the sweet potatoes roast up tender and flavorful.
-
2 tbsp maple syrup: A drizzle of maple syrup brings a rich, cozy sweetness to every bite.
-
1/4 tsp salt: Just a pinch of salt balances out the sweetness and makes all the flavors pop.

Tips & Tricks for the Perfect Sweet Potato Bites
-
I like to slice the sweet potatoes evenly so they roast at the same speed. No one wants a bite that’s too soft or too crunchy.
-
Keeping an eye on the marshmallows under the broiler is key; they can go from golden to burnt in seconds.
-
If I’m making these for a crowd, I’ll prep the sweet potatoes ahead of time and just add the marshmallows and pecans right before serving.
-
A drizzle of extra maple syrup at the end makes them extra indulgent, I never skip it.
-
If I want a little more flavor, I’ll sprinkle a touch of cinnamon or nutmeg over the sweet potatoes before baking.
-
I’ve found using parchment paper makes cleanup so much easier, especially with the sticky marshmallows and syrup.

Serving
-
I love serving these straight from the oven while the marshmallows are still gooey and warm.
-
They make the prettiest little addition to a holiday platter alongside other festive appetizers.
-
These bites work beautifully as a side dish for Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving, but they also shine as a sweet appetizer or even a dessert bite.
-
If I’m hosting, I’ll arrange them on a rustic wooden board or a festive tray to make them feel extra special.
-
A sprinkle of cinnamon sugar or a light dusting of powdered sugar before serving gives them an extra holiday touch.

Storing
-
If I have leftovers (which doesn’t happen often), I pop them in an airtight container in the fridge.
-
They’ll stay fresh for about 2–3 days, but I think they taste best the same day.
-
To reheat, I like to use the oven or toaster oven so the sweet potatoes crisp back up and the marshmallows get melty again.
-
I don’t recommend freezing these since the marshmallows don’t hold up well once thawed.
