The Snowball Drink
Christmas wasn’t Christmas in our house until my Dad had got the Advocaat out to make his first Snowball of the season. I’m not sure why it became a festive drink, but I think that was the case in many households in the UK back in the eighties. The Snowball drink (or Snowball Cocktail as it’s often known) was incredibly popular back then, and it’s still available to enjoy today too.
What is a Snowball drink?
The Snowball drink is a 50/50 combination of Warninks Advocaat and lemonade with a dash of lime cordial to taste. If you were really posh, you’d squeeze some fresh lime juice instead of using lime coridal.
What are the ingredients for a snowball?
The main ingredients of a Snowball Cocktail are:
- 50% Warninks Advocaat
- 50% Sparkling lemonade
- Dash of lime juice or lime cordial
There were other ingredients you could add too depending on your personal taste but favourites include a cinnamon stick, maraschino cherry or even a blog of vanilla ice cream.
How to make a snowball drink
Once you’ve got all of your ingredients, pour them into a cocktail shaker and shake, shake, shake. Then, pour the cocktail into a glass with ice and voila, you have your very own Snowball cocktail. You can serve in a martini glass, elegant cocktail glasses or a tall glass, whatever suits your mood and the occasion!
Why is a snowball called a snowball?
The popular alcoholic beverage gets its name from the frothy white top that typically forms once the drink is mixed and poured into a glass.
