What Happened to Toffos Sweets?
Toffos sweets were one of my absolute favourite treats back in the nineties. I can still taste the creamy toffee flavour now. We were always allowed to choose a treat from the corner shop on a Friday after school and Toffos were one of my go-to favourite choices. But what happened to Toffos sweets? Can you still buy them today?
What did Toffos sweets taste like?
These delicious treats were chewy toffee sweets that came individually wrapped in a roll. They originally came as mint toffee flavour but more flavours were introduced over time:
Toffos flavours
- Mint
- Plain toffee
- Apple
- Strawberry
- Pineapple
- Banana
You could buy them as one individual flavour or choose a mixed pack so you had a variety of flavours in the roll.
What happened to Toffos sweets?
These delicious assorted flavour toffee sweets were first made by Mackintosh’s before being taken over by Rowntree when the two companies merged in 1969. Rowntree Mackintosh Ltd made the decision to discontinue Toffos in 2005. Thankfully though, Nestle re-launched them a few years later but sadly they were only available to buy in Dubai.
Can you still buy Toffos today?
I included Toffos sweets in my list of old sweets and chocolate bars no longer made, but that might not be strictly true. My research tells me that it is sometimes possible to buy them in the UK, you just have to find a UK sweet supplier who imports from Dubai. At the time of writing, I haven’t been able to find any in stock anywhere in the UK, so if you do know where they’re available then please let me know!
Amazon is often a great place for retro sweets, but they currently don’t have any Toffos!
Etsy is often a great place to find retro sweets and treats, but no joy over there at the moment finding UK stockists of Toffos. I did find some Toffos artwork over there though!
