Ingredients
- 5 cups Rice Krispies cereal: The crispy base for these treats, adding the perfect crunch in every bite.
- 4 cups mini marshmallows (about 10 ounces): These marshmallows melt to create that gooey, sweet texture that makes Rice Krispie treats so irresistible.
- ½ cup red meltable candies: These will give your treats a bold red pop of color and a sweet candy coating.
- ½ cup white meltable candies: The creamy white candy drizzle adds a smooth, sweet layer of flavor to your treats.
- ½ cup blue meltable candies: Bright blue candy melts add the finishing touch to your patriotic dessert.
- ¼ cup butter: This buttery ingredient helps melt the marshmallows and gives the treats that deliciously rich flavor.
- Sprinkles: Add as many (or as few) sprinkles as you like to give your treats a festive, fun, and colorful touch!

1. Melt the butter in a large pot over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows, stirring until completely melted and the mixture is smooth.

2. Remove the pot from heat and immediately mix in the Rice Krispies cereal until well coated.

3. Press the mixture firmly into a 9×13 inch baking pan lined with parchment paper or lightly greased. Flatten it evenly across the pan.

4. Let the Rice Krispie treat cool and set in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
5. Once set, lift the whole treat out of the pan using the edges of the parchment paper. Place it on a cutting board and cut into squares or rectangles to your preferred size.

7. Drizzle each Rice Krispie square with each of the melted candy colors. You can do this with a spoon or a piping bag.

9. Allow the treats to set completely at room temperature, or in the refrigerator for a faster setting.

Tips & Tricks for the Perfect Patriotic Red, White & Blue Rice Krispie Treats
-
Use Fresh Marshmallows: For the best texture, make sure your mini marshmallows are fresh. Older marshmallows may not melt as smoothly and could result in a lumpy mixture.
-
Don’t Overheat the Butter and Marshmallows: When melting the butter and marshmallows, keep the heat low to prevent burning. Stir frequently to ensure the marshmallows melt evenly, and take the mixture off the heat as soon as it’s smooth.
-
Press Firmly But Gently: When pressing the Rice Krispie mixture into the pan, use the back of a spoon or a piece of wax paper to press it down evenly and firmly. Just don’t press too hard, as it can make the treats too dense.
-
Chill for Faster Setting: After you’ve shaped the Rice Krispie treats, pop them into the fridge for about an hour to speed up the cooling and setting process. This helps them hold their shape better when cutting.
-
Use a Piping Bag for Neat Candy Drizzling: For clean, even lines of melted candy, use a piping bag to drizzle the red, white, and blue melts over the Rice Krispie squares. If you don’t have a piping bag, a spoon works, but it might be a bit messier!
-
Layer the Colors for Extra Fun: For a fun twist, you can alternate layers of red, white, and blue candy drizzle over the treats instead of just one color at a time. This will give your treats a vibrant, layered effect.
-
Sprinkle While Wet: Make sure to add your sprinkles while the melted candy coating is still wet so they stick properly. If you wait too long, the candy coating will harden, and the sprinkles won’t stick as well.
-
Use the Right Pan: A 9×13-inch baking pan works best for this recipe, ensuring the Rice Krispie treats are thick enough to hold up but not too thick that they’re hard to bite into.
-
Add Extra Toppings: For a little extra flair, try adding edible glitter or star-shaped sprinkles to match the patriotic theme.
-
Cut with a Warm Knife: To get clean cuts when slicing your treats, run a buttered or warmed knife through the cooled Rice Krispies. This will help prevent them from sticking to the knife.
