The Jubbly Ice Lolly
The Jubbly Frozen Drink as it was officially known, was a bit of a novelty product when it first came out. The frozen juice is packaged in a tetrahedron-shaped cardboard outer layer.
The Jubbly Ice Lolly has been around for a good few decades now. It’s difficult to pin point when they were first released, but they were definitely around in the seventies.
Made with real fruit juice, Jubblies are actually quite hard to eat. And they can be even harder to get into. The best way to open the cardboard packaging is to cut along the top with a pair of scissors. Just like a Tip Top Ice Lolly, this does mean that you’re likely to cut through part of the ice lolly too. Unlike most ice lollies, these don’t come with a stick to hold, so you have to eat them from the cardboard container. It’s all good until you get near the bottom of the packet and then it can all go wrong very quickly! Once you’ve got into the packet, you’re faced with a large chunk of frozen juice that’s difficult to squeeze up out of the packaging without the whole thing flying out and landing on the kitchen floor.
Jubbly Ice Lollies are sold today in multipack boxes. They’re usually found on shop shelves rather than in the freezer. The idea is that you pop the box into the freezer when you get home and allow the juice to freeze before opening them up.
