Do you remember Extra Thin Ice Sheets?

There are some things that bring back instant memories when we see them, and Extra Thin Ice Sheets are one such thing. As soon as I saw the image, I was instantly transported back in time and could practically feel and taste them as if I’d really popped one in my mouth.

What were Extra Thin Ice Sheets?

We’re all familiar with chewing gum, but back in 2002, a popular chewing gum brand released a new type of mouth freshener. Wrigley’s Extra Thin Ice Sheets were thin blue sheets that released a minty taste as they melted on your tongue.

Wrigley’s thought they’d hit a winner with this product. No need to chew, it just dissolved on the tongue but still left the mouth feeling minty fresh.

However, after a short while, it became clear that regular chewing gum would always win, and Wrigley’s Extra Thin Ice Sheets were soon discontinued.

Wrigley’s did release a mint version of their product though for people who aren’t keen on chewing gum.

As with many retro food and drink products, the amount of sugar in chewing gum and breath fresheners became a cause for concern, so Wrigley’s have been producing sugar free versions of their products for some time now, sadly though there’s no suggestion that Extra Thin Ice Sheets will make a comeback.
