Do you remember the Cabana Chocolate Bar?
The eighties were a great decade for chocolate bars and sweet treats, and the Cabana bar was definitely up there with the best of them.
What was a Cabana Bar?
A Cabana bar was a chocolate bar made by Rowntree’s, the British confectionary company responsible for treats such as the Kit Kat, Aero, Fruit Pastilles and the old favourite, Toffos.
Cabana bars had a milk chocolate outer layer, with a coconut filling with chunks of cherry.
The tasty milk chocolate bar was wrapped in a blue wrapper with ‘Cabana’ written in a sunset orange across the front.
The Cabana Chocolate Bar TV Advert
The advert for the Cabana bar used the same music as the advert for the TRIO biscuit. The song used was Day-O (The Banana Boat Song).
Cabana Chocolate Bar Advert Lyrics
Come mister magic man, make me a Cabana
Daylight come and we want go home
Coconut, caramel, cherries and milk chocolate
Daylight come and we want go home
Cabana, Cabana, Cabana, Cabana
Daylight come and we want go home
Can you still buy Cabana bars?
Unfortunately, like many of the famous chocolate treats from the eighties, Cabana bars were discontinued by Rowntree’s back in the nineties and they are no longer available to buy.
There isn’t really a great alternative that tastes anywhere near like a Cabana. But, I have been told that eating a Bounty bar with the delicious coconut filling and chewing some chopped-up glacé cherries is pretty much the next best thing.
Other discontinued chocolate bars
We all had a favourite chocolate bar when we were younger, I remember looking forward to spending my pocket money in the tuck shop each week, but sadly many of them didn’t stand the test of time.
Here are just a few of the discontinued chocolate bars and other snacks we would love to see making a comeback:
Was the Cabana bar one of your favourites back in the eighties? Or, if you weren’t a fan of the combination of coconut and juicy cherries, was there something else you’d love to see returning to shop shelves?
